Good morning friends!
If you're anything like me, the dark and dreary winter days can sometimes leave you feeling a little down or low energy, and it's so easy to slip into wearing the same winter "uniform" over and over (particularly when you're getting dressed early in the morning and it's still dark and soo cold!)
So today's simple style tips will hopefully help to not only brighten your wardrobe, but also lift your mood a little too!
1) Throw on a bright scarf
As you may know, I'm a lover of colour, but I know that even for me, it's easy to just end up wearing all the dark winter tones during this time of year. Don't get me wrong, I love those wintery hues, but sometimes a bright pick me up is needed.
That's when something as simple as throwing on a bright scarf comes in. It's the easiest thing, but can instantly lift and change your outfit from kinda boring to fun and playful.
This time of year, I tend to wear more neutral, basic pieces, so a colourful scarf goes with pretty much everything making it a very versatile piece. This particular scarf is one I picked up from Sportsgirl and because it's so cozy and warm it's quickly become a staple in my winter wardrobe. Practical as well as being pretty, I've been wearing it with everything - from casual weekend outfits like this one (I love these colours paired with the khaki parker) as well as to work and out for dinner (with an otherwise all black outfit).
It's always nice to have a big snuggly scarf to pop on as you head out into the cold, so by choosing a colourful one, it makes adding a bright pop of colour super easy.
2) Swipe on some lipstick of paint your nails a fun colour!
Another way I love to add a little fun to my outfit is by wearing a bright lipstick. If you tend to shy away from bright lipstick colours, the best way to get started is with something berry toned. It's not as crazy as red, so is much easier to pull off on a day-to-day basis and is just generally such a pretty colour, particularly for the winter months. My go to lip colour is the Revlon "Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain" number 005 "Crush". It really is an awesome stain that lasts for hours and is so comfortable to wear. (This is what I wore for my wedding!)
Of course, if lipstick isn't your thing, maybe nail polish is? I hadn't worn polish in almost a year (I can't wear it for work so don't usually bother on the weekends), but painted my nails for a party the other weekend and it was so fun diving back into my nail polish collection. I know it's so simple, but sometimes we forget about these small details that really can be so fun and add a little extra "oomph" to your outfit. Remember - it's all about the little details that make you feel fab, it doesn't matter if no-one else notices!
3) Add a colourful hair (or head) accessory
Hair scarves seem to be everywhere at the moment, and they are an easy way to spruce up a plain ponytail (which is how I wear my hair most of the time!) I also enjoy tying mine to my black handbag to brighten it up a little!
A brightly coloured beanie or beret is another look I love (although haven't actually worn myself). If you choose something in your signature colour that goes with everything, it will be a versatile piece that you can pair with multiple outfits throughout these wintery months!
Hopefully that gives you a few simple ideas for how to add a little colour to you wardrobe this winter.
Sometimes adding just one or two pieces in a signature colour that goes with everything else in your wardrobe can make such a difference. As long as you choose carefully, you'll have a versatile accessory that can be paired with multiple outfits throughout these wintery months!
Do you find that adding colour to what you're wearing brightens your mood too?
I really do believe that it's the little details and small pleasures that we can incorporate into our everyday lives can make a big difference to our overall happiness.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on this?!
