One of my favourite ways to get really beautiful, natural photos of kids is to give them an activity to do, or a toy to play with, and to then step back a little and be “the observer” - documenting the cute moments that just naturally unfold when we let kids do their own thing rather than trying to get them to look and smile at the camera.

So when Moonkie reached out and asked if I would like to try out one of their products I was very happy to have found a brand that is both functional and fun for the kids, but is also so aesthetically pleasing and I knew would photograph beautifully - really adding to photos rather than distracting (as super bright toys sometimes can) and, photos aside, just generally being nice to look at for a pastel lover like myself!

This was supposed to be a maternity session with both parents-to-be at the beach, but when Emi’s hubby had to head to France a few days before our planned shoot date, we decided we’d still do the session, just in case bub decided to arrive before we were able to reschedule (you never know what’s going to happen with babies!!) (We luckily did manage to fit in time to take those photos at the beach and I’ll be sure to link them when the post for that session is up).

So we decided to do a solo maternity session at home, and it resulted in these gorgeous photos! Isn’t she just so beautiful? 😍

All maternity sessions are special, but there is just something extra magical about maternity photos when it is your first baby.

I think because it’s freezing, in this moment, memories of who you are, and how life feels right now - before it changes completely. There is something so special about being able to look back at yourself and your bump and remember those feelings - the excitement, the anticipation, the nervousness about what’s to come, the feeling their kicks and waiting to meet them!

I’m so happy to finally be sharing these photos from a really beautiful and relaxed newborn/family session down by the river. It was a typical, hot, Perth afternoon in late November , so we decided to start up in the park area under the trees and then headed down to the water a little later, where big sis had a lot of fun splashing around!

We had a really lovely family holiday down south in Margaret River for the long weekend a few weeks ago and I wanted to share some of the photos and things we got up to.
