Goodmorning!
Today I'm flashing back to where this blog began and sharing a good old fashioned Style Diary!
I used to do these all the time, but for a while I lost my passion for them as I felt they weren't particularly helpful... or that I didn't have anything interesting to say about my outfit... or I thought my style wasn't unique or "cool" enough for me to be considered a "fashion blogger"
(...and lets admit it, I also kinda wanted my blog to have more "substance", not just be all about the outfit photos)
I've finally realised that's a pretty silly reason to stop sharing these kind of posts though, considering they are some of my favourites to see on other blogs and are just a lot of fun!
Blogging is my place for escapism, for fun and frivolity and to celebrate all the little things that make life wonderful.. and you know what? Fashion is one of those things for me! If I don't feel like writing some lengthy article, I don't have to!
I know that personally, when I'm reading fashion blogs, sometimes I just want a really simple, quick hit of outfit inspiration.
Not necessarily a full commentary about how the shoes/top/jacket/whatever works together or how these colours and patterns complement each other... I just want to look at the photos and get some visual inspiration.
So you might be seeing a few more of those simple, photo-based fashion posts around here - just me sharing an outfit that I love and feel really good in - because that's what fashion is all about right?
Sometimes I read style blogs and think "why do you make it so complicated? It's just supposed to be fun!"
That is always my approach when it comes to style!
Yes, I do have certain "guidelines" that I made for myself when I needed to curb my shopping habits and edit my wardrobe, but I never take it too seriously!
Ultimately my only "rule" when it comes to fashion is this:
"Wear whatever the hell you want, as long as you love it and it makes you feel fab!"
Which is just what this outfit does for me. Nothing fancy, just my fave jeans, my fave bright pink top that always lifts my mood, comfy cons and my trusty old leather jacket :)
I feel like this post from the website Shondaland sums up a lot of my feelings about style, in a way that I couldn't quite put into words myself, and also made me realise why I felt so uncomfortable with the label "fashion blogger" for such a long time. Dishing out style advice or talking about rules you should follow, or even telling you how you should and shouldn't wear something... it's always felt weird for me because everyone is different!
What applies for me may not work for you, so while I will still probably share a lot of my style tips and tricks in the future (in an attempt to be helpful or at least entertaining!) I whole heartedly agree with the advice they recommended in that article:
"Trust yourself, trust your instincts, trust what you love"
It's a pretty good motto for life in general too (and one I've been really focusing on this year)
There's no need to fit some mould, to prove yourself to anyone.
Just do what you love... and you'll be alright... :)
...and it turns out I did have something to say after all :p
Hope you've enjoyed the post! Come say hi on Instagram @laurennatalia29 or leave me a comment below and tell me your thoughts!
Lots of Love
