Hello Hello!
Today I felt like doing another little apartment update and sharing some photos of our home office/study room before it gets a big makeover and is turned into a nursery for our little bubby who will be arriving later this year!
We live in a two bedroom apartment and this space has been our study for the past 4 years (can’t believe how fast time has flown!). To be honest it is also the room where we hang our laundry and leave the ironing board out most of the time, so it’s not usually this neat or spacious! (Just being real!! #apartmentliving)
Despite the fact that it does become a bit of a storage space, I absolutely love this room because it is so bright because of the beautiful light from the north facing windows. Lots of natural light was such an important thing for me and one of our non-negotiables when we were searching for a place. That’s one of the reasons we fell in love with this apartment - both this room and our bedroom have lovely big north facing windows and it makes such a difference to a space!
Because of the gorgeous light it has also become my plant room where all my indoor plants live, and I love how the greenery brings so much life to the space.
My Indoor Plant Collection
Currently I have an aloe vera plant and succulents lining the windowsill (these are the succulents I grew from a leaf and used for our wedding favours!).
I also have a Peace Lily, Maiden Hair Fern, Chain of Hears and Syngonium (that’s the one to the right of the desk).
I wouldn’t consider myself to be someone with a particularly green thumb, but I’ve been quite pleased with how I’ve managed to keep these plants alive over the years (hopefully a good sign that we’ll be okay with a baby!!!!!)
I can highly recommend a Peace Lily if you’re someone who struggles with keeping plants alive! They are such low maintenance and really hardy! (Unlike my fern who is struggling a little!!)
The Furniture
This is an angle of the room I don’t think I’ve shared before. I’m not a big fan of these black Ikea Box Shelves but they’re very functional and store all our folders/stationery bits and bobs. We’d like to replace them at some stage but just haven’t found anything quite right yet!
Tom’s desk was made by his Dad years ago and our chairs are from West Elm. I love the navy upholstery, the acorn wood and the fact that they are super comfy!
My desk is also from West Elm - it’s the Mid-Century Mini Desk in Acorn and it’s still available to purchase. I think it looks great in this space and is where I’m sitting right now as I’m typing this!
Our white curtains were something we changed very early on (the room used to have horrible yellow curtains!). These white linen curtains are from Ikea and they’re the perfect balance - sheer enough to let lots of light filter through while still providing privacy. We’ll probably need to add some black-out blinds behind for when the baby is here, but for now we love them.
The little black storage trolley next to my desk, the stool the Peace Lily is sitting on and a lot of our frames are also from Ikea. I love the big floral print on the wall (which was actually a piece of beautiful wrapping paper that I decided to frame) as I think it ties in well with the rest of the greenery in the room!
I hope you enjoyed this little peak into our study/home office/spare room!
I’ve really enjoyed styling it up and am pretty happy with how it’s come together. It’s not perfectly finished (we still have the printer sitting on the floor and there are things we’d like to change) but I wanted to share with you and record for myself what it looks like right now before it gets a complete makeover over the next few months!
That’s the thing with home design and interiors. We have all these ideas of how we want to create the “perfect space”, but it’s always going to be a work in progress, evolving as our lives change. Our lives aren’t static and our homes shouldn’t be either - they change and grow with us, and I’m excited to see how this room is transformed into a nursery for our little girl soon!
I love interior design - decorating, making a space beautiful and adding little personal touches is so much fun for me. I’m looking forward to decorating a whole house someday, but for now we are very much appreciating living in this little apartment of ours that has been such a happy space for the past 4 years!
If you enjoyed this post or have any questions about the space/furniture etc, let me know in the comments or come say hi over on Instagram @laurennatalia.co
I’d love to hear from you!
Lots of Love
Lauren
