Hi friends!
So today’s post is a rather exciting one… we’ve been keeping a secret for the past few months and I’m so excited to finally be able to share that Tom and I will be having a baby in September this year!
This pregnancy announcement is a little delayed considering the fact that I’m already 23 weeks pregnant (over half way!!!) but there were a few reasons we wanted to keep the news quiet and offline for a bit longer….Now though, as you can see from the photos, it’s pretty obvious that I haven’t just eaten too much chocolate and that I do in fact have a rather sizeable baby bump, so I’m super happy to be sharing the news!
We found out back in early February (at 7 weeks) and it was a total surprise! A very happy surprise though, and although it did take a little time to sink in, we can’t wait to meet our bubby and hopefully become awesome parents!
Being well into the second trimester now, I am thankfully feeling SO much better, because the first trimester was really rough. I know compared to some people I was pretty lucky, but “morning sickness” is a stupid name in my opinion. For me (as I know it is for so so many women) it was all day, 24/7 nausea that wouldn’t go away (along with dizziness and constant exhaustion). Snacking helped a little but it didn’t really take away from the constant sea-sick feeling.
Anyone remember earlier in the year when I completely disappeared from the blog and instagram? Now you know why (it wasn’t just because the blog was getting a makeover!)
I just didn’t have the energy to do anything other than drag myself to work and then collapse in bed!
Don’t get me wrong though - I’m not trying to complain or seek sympathy, it’s just I feel it’s important to actually share the experience, rather than gloss over it and pretend it was all fine and dandy, so that if anyone else is going through a similar thing they can feel a bit less alone!
Once I got to about 15 weeks things thankfully started to pick up and I’m now actually feeling really amazing!
It also helped once we started telling our friends and extended family because they were all so happy and excited for us! I filmed my grandparents reaction when we told them (you can watch in the video above if you like) and it was so nice to be able to capture the moment!
As I mentioned before, it was definitely a big surprise for us, (although we’d been talking about planning for a baby sometime this year, so it’s only a few months earlier really). We’re so grateful and realise how lucky we are that this happened so easily for us, but it was a bit of a shock at first! Watching youtube videos and hearing about other peoples experiences was so helpful to me during the early weeks before we told anyone, so I decided I’d film my own pregnancy vlogs too in the hopes that it could help some other people who might be feeling a bit lonely during the early weeks when they’ve just found out!
I’ll be sharing those soon, as well as some maternity fashion videos too! If you have any requests let me know - I’ve already filmed an “Asos Maternity Jeans Try-On” and a “How To Hide A Baby Bump” video and I’m excited to film more style videos!
We have a lot to organise before the baby gets here but we recently just made our first big purchases of a pram and cot (after much deliberation!) It’s overwhelming the number of choices there are and all the suggestions of things you “need”, but we’re trying to be pretty restrained and just stick to the absolute necessities at the moment!
I feel like I’ve been really good so far as I’ve not caved to all the cute baby clothes, but I’m excited to pick up a few things soon! My mum asked me the other day if the baby is going to have a capsule wardrobe! haha :p We’ll see….
Tom is super excited and has been so sweet and helpful (and particularly patient during the first 3 months when I was definitely not on my best form… I was so snappy and emotional, but thankfully that seems to have passed!!)
We just picked up the pram and he can’t wait to start playing around with it! He actually asked if we could practice pushing it down to the coffee shop around the corner - to which I replied “No way - that is really weird!!” … but his excitement was very cute!
I’ve been feeling little kicks for a few weeks now and Tom is so excited to hopefully be able to feel them soon too (he thinks he felt a little one the other day but very faint).
It was only when I started feeling the kicks that it fully sunk in that there’s going to be an actual little person joining us very soon! (I realise that sounds silly, but it just didn’t feel very real up until that point!)
I think I’ll leave it there for today! I’m so happy that we’re able to share the news now and all the exciting things that are happening!
As always I’d love to hear from you in the comments or over on Instagram @laurennatalia.co
Particularly if you’re also pregnant or are a new mum! This is all very new so it would be fun to connect with any mum’s-to-be who are going through this experience!
Lots of Love
Lauren
