Hello hello!
Today we’re talking about one of my pregnancy style staples - the wrap dress!
Wrap dresses are a great wardrobe staple anytime, but are particularly fab for when you’re pregnant. One of my pregnancy “essentials” for sure because they are so versatile!
I love them because they can be adapted to fit as your bump grows, they’re not specifically maternity wear so you’ll get a lot of use out of them in “normal” life when you’re not pregnant too, and as a bonus they are also breastfeeding friendly (which is important once bub is out and you realise that all your other dresses are unfortunately not very accommodating for that!!)
They’re one of those pieces that can take you from the early stages of your pregnancy when you might be wanting to keep your bump on the down low (check out this post - How To Hide A Baby Bump for more tips on that!) through to the very end (or at least pretty close to the end anyway!!)
One tip when it comes to styling a wrap dress in the later stages of pregnancy is just to make sure you have a (stretchy) slip to wear underneath it. When the bump is big it can get a little trickier to wrap it all the way around so the front part can end up a little short/open, and the top may gape a tad. If you have a slip underneath though, you’re good to go!
You can also pair it with more opaque tights/leggings if it is really too short which is something I did a lot with one of my wrap skirts when the bump got a bit too big!!
It’s just so handy to have a dress that you can rely on to fit you even as the bump steadily gets bigger and bigger. Especially if you have a special occasion that you’re needing to dress up for. It’s nice not having to buy a specific maternity dress that you’ll only get use out of when you’re pregnant!
For this outfit we were going for dinner so I paired it with some black over-the-knee boots, but it could easily be dressed up more with heels (say for a wedding), or would even look fab dressed down a bit with some tan boots and a jacket!
These photos were taken when I was almost 37 weeks pregnant. We were heading out for an early birthday dinner for Tom with his family and I remember feeling so huge and whale-like that night, but decided to throw on a pretty dress, my new pearl hair-clip and some red lipstick and really try to make the most of the opportunity to dress up, as I figured it could be one of our last night’s out before bubby arrived. She had a dance party in my tummy that night (I think she enjoyed the music at the restaurant) and decided to make her appearance a week later!
I’m feeling pretty nostalgic at the moment as I’m writing this because I’m realising that Ruby’s actually been out 39 weeks now (yes I counted the weeks!) - longer than she was in my tummy! Of course I prefer having her out in the world with us, but I did love feeling all her little kicks and the excitement that we felt in these photos, knowing that we’d get to meet her soon!
So that’s it for today! I’m hoping to share more of my bump style outfits that I never got around to posting while I was actually pregnant!
I had so much fun dressing the bump, but I know a lot of people can find it a bit tricky, so hopefully these posts will provide a little style inspo and tips if you’re struggling! They’ll all be in the Bump Style section under the “STYLE” tab up the top! ↑
As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts - are you a fan of wrap dresses too? What’s your fave way to style them? Leave a comment below or come say hi over on Insta @laurennatalia.co
