So you’re in the third trimester! Yay!
It’s exciting! …and at the same time you’re starting to feel a bit like a whale… your tummy is so big and hard, you’re waddling around like a duck, you can’t get comfortable at night… and whenever you do finally fall asleep you have to get up to go to the toilet!!!
I can’t really help with those things, but I can give a few suggestions to help you feel a little prettier and more like yourself when you’re getting dressed in the morning! I always find if you like what you’re wearing it can help you feel just that little bit better overall!
Of course there will be days when you just feel “blah”, and that is totally fine, but when you do want to put in a little effort, hopefully these tips will help give you some inspiration - because getting dressed and feeling good when it feels like you have a watermelon in your tummy can be very challenging!
1) Find A Great Dress That Makes You Feel Fab
I’m not usually someone who likes fitted clothes, but when I was pregnant I was all about the stretchy bodycon dresses because they really did make me feel the best out of everything!
Obviously this can be different for everyone and if a floaty dress makes you feel your best - go for that! For me, I felt like the looser pieces just made me feel way bigger and more whale-like, but the fitted ones actually highlighted the bump and were super stretchy and comfy - so even if they’re not usually your thing I would suggest giving them a try!
The key is just to have at least one dress that will fit you no matter how huge you get so you always have something to throw on! Even having just one staple dress that looks great and is really comfy can make such a huge difference to how you feel, and prevent those “I am so big!! Nothing fits me. I have nothing to wear!” melt downs.
My two favourite dresses that I wore on repeat were this grey one from Kookai (non-maternity but they just have awesome soft, stretchy dresses) and this lovely pink one from Legoe Heritage - probably my fave maternity brand. Choose a colour you love and it can instantly lift your mood!
2) Have A Go To Outfit Combination
Following along from the above, it’s nice to have a few “go-to” outfit combos and ways to style your dress that you know works, so you can just throw it on with your other pieces without having to think or try things on (playing dress-ups when you’re almost 9 months pregnant doesn’t usually end well…)
For me that combo was always a fitted dress + comfy leggings + tall boots (make sure they have zips because pulling on boots without them isn’t going to work) + a layering piece to add a bit of interest.
3) Have Fun With Accessorise!
Accessories are the easiest way to add a little fun and make you feel that bit more put together. It’s such a small thing, but they really can be that “pick-me-up” you need! Something to make you smile and feel pretty!
Hair clips were my favourite way to make my outfit feel cuter in the third trimester. I loved this pretty pearl one that I’m wearing in the photos from Portman’s. They are everywhere at the moment so you can find them pretty easily and they’re an inexpensive way to jazz up your look. Sportsgirl and Seed have some lovely ones too :)
Necklaces or earrings were also a favourite - basically all the girlie things that can make you feel a bit more feminine and pretty!
4) Treat Yourself To Some Nice Lounge Wear
There will be days when you just want to stay in trackies because you just can’t bear the thought of jeans or leggings or anything tight around your tummy, so I’d suggest treating yourself to some really nice loungewear. You’ll get a tonne of use out of it when the baby is born anyway, so may as well get it early on!
If you’re anything like me your loungewear is likely super old and worn looking, but when you’re going to be living in it daily, I really think it is worth spending the money on something that’s going to make you feel good. My favourite trackie pants were the “Milan Joggers” from Legoe Heritage (I ordered size 1 in the black and navy). They have gotten so much wear - especially over the last few weeks of pregnancy and postpartum, and they have washed so well and still look great - so they are definitely worth spending a little extra on!
I’d also suggest getting a comfy jumper in your favourite colour. A lovely colour can really lift your spirits - I’ve got my eye on one of these ones from Country Road - just waiting for the perfect colour!
5) Don’t underestimate the power of a bright lipstick!
Sometimes something as simple as swiping on a bright red lipstick (or whatever your go-to colour is!) can really lift your mood!
6) Feel those baby kicks and just get super excited about meeting your baby
So this one’s not a style tip but sometimes you just need to remind yourself that all the discomforts and crazy changes will be completely worth when you get to meet your beautiful baby. How cool is it that your body has made a whole human!!
Hopefully these tips have given you a little style inspiration and goodluck with the last few weeks of your pregnancy!
Lots of Love
Lauren
