Hello Hello!
It has been weeks and weeks since my last post and I have been seriously missing blogging, but life with a newborn can get a little crazy (in a wonderfully chaotic and magical way!) so there hasn’t been a lot of time to sit and tap away at my laptop unfortunately!
Soaking up all the time with her as well as snatching short stretches of sleep whenever possible has been taking precedence the past few weeks (as well as just trying to get normal life stuff done… like cooking dinner.. that is enough of a challenge!!), but tonight Ruby’s asleep a bit earlier and I’m feeling pretty good so I figured I may as well take just a little time to share these outfit photos and talk about a brand I’ve been loving!
Adjusting to life as a mumma has meant a lot of time spent at home, often in my trackies, so I’ve not been wearing the most interesting clothes, but every now and then it’s nice to dress up a little and feel a bit more like myself (wearing jeans now counts as “dressing up” for me lol).
These photos were from a few weeks back (when Ruby was just 5 weeks old!) I was super happy as I’d managed to squeeze into my pre-pregnancy jeans (they’re stretchy ones and I was also using the hair-tie looped through the buttonhole trick). I had also just bought this beautiful jumper from Legoe Heritage which is the perfect shade of pink. It was a lovely relaxed outfit to go for a walk in (and I also felt very colour co-ordinated with the pram! :p)
It’s been interesting getting dressed after having a baby, getting used to the changes that have happened in your body, as well as the fact that you need to consider if clothes are breastfeeding friendly!
A lot of my more summery clothes (particularly my dresses) are just not practical at the moment because I can’t feed Ruby easily, aside from the fact that they’re not currently fitting! It’s going to take a little while to get back to normal of course (if “normal” is even possible), but I have to say I’ve been feeling surprisingly fine about my softer, squishier tummy. After going through pregnancy and then giving birth to a beautiful baby, you can’t help but feel really grateful and proud of what your body has managed to do, so I think being kind and not having expectations that you’re just going to “bounce back” super quickly is so important.
I actually also really miss my bump sometimes because I really enjoyed being pregnant! It was fun getting dressed to flatter the bump (and of course it was so nice having bubby in my tummy and feeling her move around!) It is awesome to be able to sleep on my back again though (in the short amount of time I’m actually able to sleep that is - I really think all those sleepless nights when you’re pregnant are meant to help prepare you for what’s to come when bubby arrives!!
A brand I have been loving wearing lately during postpartum time is Legoe Heritage. It’s a maternity brand that has great basic pieces (that look awesome with and without a bump) and nursing friendly designs that feel so much younger and much more my style than some other maternity brands around.
In particular I’ve been loving their nursing t-shirts which have made it soo much easier to get used to breastfeeding in public (something I didn’t even attempt until about 7 weeks!) I’ll share about those in a separate post, but was also living in this gorgeous pink knit (“primrose” they call it) until the weather got too warm.
This one is designed for a bump and to make nursing easier too, with zips that zip up on each side. Of course with a top, it isn’t completely necessary to have zips (you can just lift it up) but it does make it a bit easier to breastfeed in a more discreet way, and if it makes you feel more comfortable I think it’s totally worth having a few specific breastfeeding tops!
This one is also lovely and soft and 100% cotton (I’m not a fan of wool, it makes me itchy!) so a big winner in my book!
I feel like there’s a lot more I could write about how I’ve been feeling about style postpartum (particularly when it comes to finding breastfeeding friendly clothes that I love and don’t feel too “mumsy” in) but I’ll leave it there for now as I really need to get to sleep! More on #mumstyle and breastfeeding friendly style finds to come!
I also have a bunch more #bumpstyle outfits that I still want to share (I had planned to have a bunch of those posts scheduled, but with Ruby’s early arrival I never got around to it!!)
Hopefully I’l be able to blog a little more frequently - I really want to share more of my pregnancy style tips and now postpartum style tips and finds, but you can always follow along on Instagram @laurennatalia.co for more frequent updates (I tend to share my outfits there more than the blog as it’s just easier at the moment!!)
Lots of Love
Lauren
