Hello friends!
For today’s post I’m sharing a super simple tip for jazzing up the typical “mum uniform” of t-shirt and shorts that I’ve been finding myself living in over the past few months!
When it comes to summer dressing, I’m usually all about pretty dresses and fun floral patterns, but since having Ruby I’ve had to adapt my style a little due to the whole breastfeeding situation, as well as the fact that it just seems so much easier to be wearing a pair of shorts that has pockets (I always need somewhere to put my phone and keys when I’m getting bubs out of the car! Anyone else feel that or is it just me? … although haven’t exactly been going anywhere lately obviously :p)
While of course there are ways to make dresses work for breastfeeding, on a typical day it’s often just easier to stick with the basic combo of shorts (or jeans) + a t-shirt which I guess is why it’s such a stereotypical “mum look”.
Just because I’m a mum now though, doesn’t mean I’ve lost my love of fashion. I think it’s so important to still make some time for the things you loved before having your little one, and for me that included playing with my style and getting dressed into something that makes me feel good! It’s such a little thing but can make a huge difference to how you feel and go about your day.
So my solution to jazz up a super simple outfit?
Add a third piece!
It really is as simple as throwing on one extra accessory.
In winter it might be a jacket, a belt, a scarf etc.
In summer my fave way to do this is with a hat or hair accessories like a headscarf, headband, or even just adding a bow to your ponytail! It is the tiniest little addition and may seem super obvious, but it really can make an outfit feel just that tad more put together and special (and when you’re living in shorts and t-shirts, a tiny addition like this can make a big difference to how you feel!)
Another thing to consider is the details of your basics.
For example with my shorts - they’re just denim shorts but I really love the fit of them - the higher waist is the most flattering style now that I’ve had a baby, and the embroidered daisy detail makes them a bit more special! Simple small details like that can really elevate your everyday comfy and functional pieces and make them more fun to wear!
The ones I’m wearing are the Insight Dylan Daisy Mom Shorts from General Pants, but I’m not sure if they’re still available (I’ve linked them though in case they re-stock). These “Dylan Shorts Blue State” are the same style though if you’re looking for the same cut - and you could always try your hand at a little embroidery if you’re feeling creative!
I’ve also been living in these Nude Lucy T-shirts (the “Harper Short Sleeve Crew Neck” style)* because A) they are super duper soft and comfy and B) I like the boxy cut as it’s not too fitting on the boobs #breastfeedingproblems haha :p
So that’s it from me today! Not the most exciting of outfits, but little details really can make all the difference to how you feel!
I’m all about celebrating the everyday moments and for me, having fun with fashion (even if it’s literally just throwing on a headband) is part of that!
As always I’d love for you to leave a comment/come say hi on Insta @laurennatalia.co and let me know what your fave summer accessory is?
Lots of Love
Lauren
