Wardrobe Staples - The Denim Shorts & Style details I look for when finding the perfect pair

It’s time for another “Wardrobe Staples” post, this time talking all about that classic summer piece - a pair of denim shorts.

Like finding the perfect fitting pair of jeans, finding your staple denim shorts can be a little like searching for a needle in a haystack, but today I thought I’d share with you my favourite (and only) pair, why I love them and talk through some of the things I look for when finding the perfect denim shorts.

Obviously there are a tonne of different style to choose from - looser, longer styles, tighter fitted super short ones (not my kinda thing, but hey, if it floats your boat - go for it!), more tailored designs and ones that are distressed with heaps of rips and tears. Dark denim, light denim, acid washed, coloured denim… the options are endless.
Obviously it depends on how you like to dress, your personal style, lifestyle and preferences!

I’m happy to say that I’ve finally found my perfect pair that ticks all the boxes for what I look for - here’s why I love them (maybe it will give you some inspiration when you’re hunting down your own!)

I’ve been talking a lot about wardrobe staples lately - those essential pieces that form the foundation of your wardrobe and make the process of getting dressed and feeling put together super effortless.

As someone who loves feminine fashion, a classic dress is always going to be high on that list of staples for me, and even if you wouldn’t describe your style as romantic or feminine at all, a classic dress in a fabric and cut that’s right for you is still always going to be a great foundation piece to have in your closet!

White Lace and Straw Hats - Perfect Pieces To Add To Your Spring/Summer Wardrobe

If you’ve been following along for a while you may recognise this lace playsuit. It’s been a firm favourite for years and I’m always excited to pull it out when the weather is lovely and warm!

Playsuits are always fun and the white lace detailing is so pretty and feminine. Although this one from Dotti is no longer available, I’ll link a few down below if you’re keen to add something similar to your wardrobe. It’s been such a great staple that I’ve worn over and over again and I still feel great whenever I throw it on because it is such a perfect fit with my personal style - classic, effortless and playful - it ticks all the boxes!

That’s the key when it comes to adding new items to your wardrobe really. When you find those special pieces that are a true reflection of your style, it means they won’t lose their sparkle after just a few wears and they’ll be loved and truly appreciated for years to come!

The Summer Dress I've Been Living In

This is a dress I picked up towards the end of summer and have been living in since I bought it. Blue and pink gingham print with buttons, a tie waist and little frill on the sleeve? Yes please!!

It’s a beautiful linen fabric that’s light and comfy and I can see it transitioning really easily into the cooler months with a pair of tights, some boots and a cute jacket thrown over the top.

While it’s still warm I’m pairing it with sandals, my favourite Jigsaw bag (which is looking a little worse for wear these days, if anyone sees something similar let me know as it may be time to think about replacing it!) and this gorgeous necklace from YCL Jewels.
