Good morning!
Today I have another “Mama and Mini” Style Diary to share with you - not matching this time but definitely a co-ordinated one!
This adorable little pinafore was one of the first pieces I bought for Ruby and she finally fits into it! To be honest, she’s probably fit it for a while, but I’ve learnt since having a baby that the clothes that get the most wear tend to be the super comfy ones - trackies, leggings etc, so her special outfits don’t actually get a whole lot of use!
I really thought I would be the mum that loved dressing her baby up, but I usually just want her to be really comfortable. That and the fact that she puts up a big fight when I have to change her, so I usually just opt for the easiest thing possible which is a tracksuit (she does have some really cute matching tracksuit sets though!)
Dresses look a bit funny when they’re still crawling anyway (rompers are definitely the way to go initially!), so maybe when she’s walking (she is so close) she will wear more of her dresses! I look at her wardrobe and know I could have kept it so much more streamlined, but it’s hard not to get a bit overexcited when you’re pregnant and all the clothes are just so darn cute!
You learn from experience right? I’ll know for the next bub! haha :)
I actually might do a blog post of the clothes you actually need for a newborn - because that is something I was really unsure about when I was pregnant! Hint - you really don’t need that much!! Let me know if that’s something you’d like to read.
Anyway, as I was saying - this cute little pinafore was one of the first things I bought for Ruby. I love the colour and the broderie anglais lace detail, and it will hopefully fit for a while as it has adjustable straps.
We put shoes on her for the first time too - and they were SO cute - although I don’t think she was a big fan! (See photo below) She kept looking at them going “what are these things on my feet?!”
She hardly even wears socks most of the time, so shoes were a very new experience! haha :p
Another thing I wanted to mention in this post was just a reminder to never compare - which I know is easier said than done. These days, it is so easy to scroll through instagram/blogs and think that all these people have their life together - beautifully styled houses, always impeccably dressed, seemingly achieving so much in a day and everything looking pretty all the time. I’m in no way saying these blogs/insta are a bad thing (I love them, but sometimes it can leave you wondering if what you’re doing is “enough” and it’s easy to slip into a bit of comparison).
While my content is definitely not as amazingly styled and put together as some bloggers I follow (thinking in particular about two of my favourites Gal Meets Glam and Margo and Me), I know it still could be perceived that everything is “perfect”.
Please don’t be fooled by appearances! From photos it may look like Ruby is always well dressed and that we have everything together, but most days she lives in her PJ’s, my hair is always messy, our house feels totally chaotic and I’ll often have meltdowns where everything just feels overwhelming and out of control!
We all have those days and moments and it is normal! Motherhood is often portrayed in social media as this idealised, beautiful thing, and yes it is beautiful, and amazing, and wonderful (and there is nothing I would rather do more than be a mama), but it is also messy and chaotic and exhausting too. And that’s okay!
We all probably have mum guilt for silly things too! I sometimes feel like a bad mum when we rock up to Rhyme Time at the library, because all the other babies are rugged up and warm, with shoes (or at least socks!) on, and here’s Ruby with no socks and probably rather cold feet!
Basically, I just wanted to remind anyone reading this that things are not always as they seem and behind all the pretty photos there is probably chaos behind the scenes! At least there is for me - the laundry is usually just out of frame and despite having been in our house for over a year now, we still have a whole room of unpacked boxes!
I want my blog to be a beautiful, inspiring and fun place to visit, but I never want to make anyone feel like everything has to be perfect all the time, so I just like to share a little dose of reality every now and then!
Anyway, I think I’ll wrap it up here! It’s early Saturday morning as I’m typing this and it has been so lovely having a little bit of “me time” before the bubba wakes up!
We’re going to Ruby’s friend’s birthday party today which we are very excited about! Ruby’s first baby birthday party (other than her own - photos of that to come when I get around to it!) and baby Michael’s mum was my first mum friend too! We met at one of the ante-natal classes and our due dates were only a day apart. It has been so lovely having her as a friend to go through this whole mama experience with.
I hope you have a beautiful weekend!
Let me know in a comment or over on Insta @laurennatalia.co what you’re getting up to!
Lots of Love
